Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein secreted by the trophoblast cells of the placenta, consisting of alpha and beta dimer glycoproteins. A glycoprotein hormone with a molecular weight of 36700, the alpha subunit is similar to FSH (follicle stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) secreted by the pituitary gland, so they can cross react with each other, while the structure of the beta subunit is not similar. After the fertilized egg moves into the uterine cavity and implants, mature women form an embryo. During the process of developing into a fetus, the syncytiotrophoblast cells of the placenta produce a large amount of HCG, which can be excreted into the urine through the maternal blood circulation. When the gestational age is 1-2.5 weeks, the levels of HCG in serum and urine can rapidly increase, reaching a peak in the 8th week of pregnancy, and then decreasing to moderate levels in the 4th month of pregnancy, and remaining until the end of pregnancy.

HCG, as a drug, can promote follicle maturation and ovulation, and transform ruptured follicles into corpus luteum. It is suitable for patients with low gonadotropin induced amenorrhea and those who have failed to use clomiphene tablets for ovulation induction. In the aquaculture industry, the main function of HCG is to promote the further development and maturation of follicles, and induce ovulation in female livestock; After ovulation, the follicular membrane and granulosa cells are transformed into luteal cells and stimulated to secrete progesterone. HCG can stimulate the development of interstitial cells in male testes, promote the secretion of male hormones, promote the development and maturation of sexual organs and accessory glands, and promote testicular function and sperm formation
This product is recombinant HCG expressed in CHO cells.
